As a young child, my father would bring me up on stage to sing along with him at his concerts. From Row Row Row Your Boat to Teddy Bear's Picnic to Freight Train, I loved singing and performing with him.
From those early performances, music was an important part of my life. I sang and acted through high school, playing the lead female role in "Little Shop of Horrors. In college I began my studies in vocal performance. Still in love with the theatre, I had the opportunity to perform as Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
After discovering the guitar, and changing universities, I turned my attention from opera, and theatre, to writing my own songs. I soon began performing gigs in local venues, as I continued writing, and exploring music.
Meet Katie
When I graduated with my BS in psychology, with a minor in Music I had already been working with children in the classroom for three years. My love for music, and children, fused into more than a decade of teaching in a Montessori Early Childhood classroom. Through my guitar, and voice, I shared music with the students in my classroom, I learned that I loved the joy that music brings into the faces of children!
Today music is an important part of my life, and life in our home. My two sweet children love when my husband and I crank up the music for a dance party, or grab simple instruments to play. And I love seeing them learn to express themselves creatively with sound.
Now I am bringing the joy of music to your children! Alongside my training in First Steps in Music, I use the techniques and skills learned over my time in the classroom to create developmentally appropriate musical experiences for your children. Together we focus on folk music, helping build a deep musical heritage for my students. This research-based approach, coupled with my Montessori background, helps me to educate the whole child through music.
I look forward to helping your children learn to love music like I have my entire life! See you at The Little Music Co.
